Overview
This project is a visual documentation of my unforgettable trip to Chiangmai, Thailand, inspired by a photograph I took in the Doi Suthep–Pui National Park. The image captures an architectural structure enshrouded by dense foliage, evoking a sense of a lost, mysterious, religious site. To translate this atmosphere into my artwork, I employed a printmaking technique that involved multiple steps.
Tools Used:
Silkscreen, Acrylic, Emulsion, Squeegee, Stencil, Printmaking paper, Photoshop
Inspiration
Initially, I used Photoshop to create three distinct layers: a shadow layer, a highlight layer, and a text layer that identifies the location. These layers were then printed in black and white on transparent paper. Following this, I applied emulsion to a silkscreen and used it to print each of the three layers on separate silkscreens.
For the final prints, I chose a yellowish-green from the Morandi color palette, as it perfectly captures the subtle, enigmatic vibe I experienced during my visit to the park. I experimented with printing on both beige and black paper, each producing a different mood—beige offering a softer, more muted feel, while black provided a striking contrast that heightened the mystery of the scene.
